BeatColor Overview

BeatColor is a Vietnamese real estate photo editing team. The company was founded in 2016 and has grown quickly in tandem with online real estate marketing as an industry.

They started off with only four editors, but today the team is comprised of over 100 admin people and talented editors.

According to the company’s marketing team, they plan to carry on growing in the coming years as the market for online real estate services expands.

Pricing

The pricing structure at BeatColor for real estate photo editing is firmly in line with industry standards. 

The price for the “Basic Plan” is $0.70 for a single exposure image edit. And if you shoot a bracket of two exposures: 1 flash & 1 ambient, your plan will be upgraded to “Upper Basic” for $0.80 per image. More than that, it falls under the “Standard Plan” of $1 per image.

Besides, there are additional costs for extra work. For example, the team explains that it normally costs $5 per image extra to edit photos with more complicated edits, like object removal of cars, etc.

Ordering From BeatColor

A bold front page with a big “Let’s Get Started” button is always a good start. 

Like so many other online photo editing services, your journey begins with a link that takes you to a contact form. You need to reach out to the team via email before anything else. 

The good news is that the reply from the team was very quick – almost instantaneous. 

1. Creating an Account

The email leads you to a “Registration” page where you input your details and set up an account.

It’s all standard stuff, but registration was where I encountered my first glitch. I had just signed up, but moments later my account said: “Not activated.” And after that, the page became “Unavailable.”

This was a frustrating start.

Update: An email just landed in my “Promotions” tab asking me to contact a second email address before getting activated.

Once I did that, my registration was processed, and I could open the “Dashboard” and fill in my personal details. But the process felt a little roundabout and could use some streamlining. 

2. The Uploading Process

To get started on the Dashboard, you click “Create New Task,” then fill in the form that opens up. 

The top half of the form is straightforward, but I got very confused in the second section, particularly when you’re asked to fill in the block that says “Total original files confirmation.”

What does that mean?

I tried naming the files or linking to them, before realizing they wanted to know how many files I had uploaded.

Seems obvious once you know, but it took me a long while.

The file uploading interface also felt a bit confusing. But once I worked it out, it uploaded quickly and you got to watch the progress as it moved along. 

3. Requesting Edits

After I had uploaded the photos, I wasn’t sure what to do next.

Turns out you have to click one of the four buttons on the top right, and again, I didn’t know which was the right choice?

With a little bit of testing, I figured out it was the “Request” button but the whole process was confusing to me.

Next, when you clicked on the “Request” button, a pop-up opened up saying “Do you want to request a new task?”

Do I? Have I finished the old task I’m working on? Are we talking about the same task?

I wasn’t sure at that point but it turned out to be the process. 

When you start to understand the language they are using it works fine, but to be honest, it felt a bit confusing in the beginning. 

Anyhow, back on the “Dashboard,” you get access to a status update of how your various projects are going and whether they are still drafts or in the system.

Photo Editing Examples

Let’s now turn our attention to the quality of work and see how well BeatColor performed.

1. Interior Bracketed Image

The first test we undertook was a bracket of two images of a children’s nursery; one overexposed and one underexposed. 

The editors have done a good job of bringing the two images together to create something workable.

The colors are warm and bright, the exterior comes through nicely (although still somewhat overlit), and it’s generally well balanced. 

This was a difficult image to fix, as there is a lot of white to contend with and they managed it well.  

2. Exterior Bracketed Image

For the first exterior test, I sent a bracket of three images of a white house and green grass against a blue sky.

As you can see, BeatColor has also done a pretty good job on this one, although I’m not crazy about the lime green color of the grass.

That feels a little overdone to me.

But the sky is balanced well, and they straightened the horizons a little, which I appreciate. Also, they are bringing out some of the nice details on the facade of the property. 

3. Object Removal

The final test image as part of the BeatColor photo editing review was to see how well the editors were able to remove items from an image.

I sent them an aerial shot with some cars in the foreground and asked them to remove the vehicles. 

Overall, they managed the task well, removing cars and shadows cleanly and highlighting some details I hadn’t seen before.

But somehow the photograph lost a little of its vibrancy and lustre and is looking a bit flat and lifeless. 

So, there were mixed results on this one.

Revisions

Asking for revisions was handled with excellence. They were hands-on and eager to please.

Every query was responded to quickly via email and inside the CMS. All things considered, I was very pleased with the attention that the account was given. 

For example, when I asked for a revision of the blue sky on my exterior shot, I got an immediate response that they would be happy to do it.

A few minutes later, they e-mailed me a selection of blue skies to choose from, and then it was done and re-uploaded within minutes. 

Image Quality

This wasn’t the strongest part of their portfolio. I found the results to be a bit dull in some cases, and the colors a little unnatural in other cases.

So, while the editing is good and they have managed to do some great blending with the bracketed images, the overall quality is slightly lacking in my opinion.

Support

In contrast to the overall image quality, the support from the team was superb.

They were really engaged, eager to please, and responsive. There was always a quick email reply, and you could see that they take a lot of pride in their work, which is great.

Additional Services

BeatColor does offer a selection of additional services that go hand in hand with photo editing. And the most notable of these are their video editing services and the floorplans.

On a positive note, these are useful as they offer additional support and handy marketing tools for real estate agents. But they are not particularly unusual in today’s industry and don’t set the company apart from its competitors. 

Hopefully, BeatColor will start to integrate other web services for photographers such as stand-alone websites, or blogging services in the near future. 

Pros and Cons of BeatColor

To give you a quick overview, here are some pros and cons of BeatColor:

Verdict: Is BeatColor’s Photo Editing Services Worth It?

The verdict of this BeatColor real estate photo editing review is that I enjoyed interacting with the team and the quality of their work was above average.

However, the web interface was a bit problematic at times. In my opinion, they offer too many features, and it’s tough to figure out exactly what you need.

So, the team would benefit from some simplified UX and a copywriter who can make sure their instructions are clear and easy to understand.

But once you’ve used the system for a while, it becomes clear what you’re trying to do, but it takes too long to get to that point.

In contrast to BeatColor, professional real estate photo editing services like PhotoUp have mastered the art of taking users through the system in a few simple steps and signposting exactly what you need to do along the way.

If BeatColor would move in that direction and streamline its ordering process, they could become a giant in the photo editing industry.

EPE-REAL Overview

EPE-REAL is a real estate photo editing company out of Vietnam that was established in 2016.

The company employs more than fifty experienced editors to offer a suite of services for professional real estate photographers.

I’m looking forward to seeing what they have to offer, so let’s jump straight into their pricing.

Pricing

I was glad to see that the team lays out its pricing strategy across all services in one clear, easy-to-understand table. 

Prices range from free retouching services, such as adding TV screens, etc., to $25 for advanced virtual staging.

Overall, the pricing looks competitive, or slightly higher than other similar services. 

The one aspect I was unclear about is the difference between Standard, Advanced and Hi-End editing that they offer.

Prices vary quite a bit in this regard, and it would be helpful to understand what they mean by each of those terms so that customers can choose the service they want. 

Ordering From EPE-REAL

The process of signing up with EPE-REAL is simple and actually quite charming.

1. Creating an Account

It starts with high-quality images on their website and a “Try It Now” button.

That takes you to a contact page that shows a Google Map to their offices in Vietnam and a few email addresses plus a contact form.

Once you take that next step and get in touch, the conversation moves to your email client. 

All in all, the initial contact from the admin team after I reached out was very fast and informative. 

2. Uploading Images

EPE-REAL tries hard to accommodate your needs and get the process moving quickly.

The next email said: “You can upload your free trial images to dropbox or google drive. Do whatever is convenient for you. Thank you! Thao.”

I quickly put together a folder in Google Drive and mailed the link to them, adding a note that I would like to see their work in the ‘traditional’ style. 

That said, let’s see what the results are like, and how long they take to deliver. (I have a feeling it’s going to be quick!)

3. Signing Up 

If you do actually sign up for the service, the process is a little bit different from emailing back and forth.

As they explain it, they will create an account for you on the system where you can log in and upload raw files at epereal.net.

​Next, you’ll email them to confirm the task and add your instructions as well at hotline.epereal@gmail.com 

The EPE-REAL team will process and take the Q&A process for two rounds to ensure the quality of the product.

And once your images are edited, they will upload the results to the system, and let you know once your order is completed.

The only slight glitch in the process is that I didn’t realize you had to tell them if you wanted them to do the work “Standard, Advanced, or High-End Style.”

It’s a little unclear and subjective what each of those means, and it would help if you just had to click a button to lodge a selection. 

But after a few emails back and forth, we settled on the ‘Standard’ style.

As I suspected, the EPE team responded quickly to my request for test images.

I shared a set of images via Google Drive and six hours later, they emailed back a Dropbox link with two versions of edited photos for me to choose between. 

Let’s take a look at the quality by comparing the before and after shots.

I like how they worked on the white balance of the photo, brought out the brightness of the colors, and were able to cleanly remove the two cars from the exterior, as I asked them to.

Another good effort by EPE Real in this example. They blended the images very nicely, managed to warm up and brighten the tones without making it look overly processed. Good job!

Next, the dappled light and shadows made this a tricky edit and a good test.

I asked them to focus on the color of the grass and they certainly did that. It’s definitely a lot greener.

However, they may have actually gone too far and made it look slightly fake.

What do you think?

Revisions

I soon realized that I had forgotten to ask the editor to remove the basketball hoop that was showing over the fence in the neighbor’s yard in one of the exterior images.

So I sent an email asking if they could do that extra work for me and the response came back affirmative within thirty minutes. 

To my satisfaction, the new version was added to the Dropbox folder in under two hours.

They did a good job of removing the offending hoop and edited the colors at the same time.  

I must say the attentiveness and speed of the EPE-REAL estate photo editing team have been great to see so far!

Image Quality

Overall, the quality of the editing work was very good.

I was impressed that they sent two different versions of the work for me to judge. Although, I wasn’t sure if that was an example of their “Standard” vs “Advanced” editing.

But they work well with color, they’re great at removing objects, and the white balance and exposure were good.

One note in my EPE-REAL estate photo editing review is that they sometimes overdo it (as you can see on the homepage), and the images look manipulated.

In their defense, some people like the heavily edited look, so that probably works for them!

I was very impressed with the support that the team offered.

They were prompt in their replies, gracious, and always managed to do what was asked quickly and efficiently.

One of the benefits of being a small, nimble upstart is that you can respond quickly to any client needs, and EPE-REAL more than proved this to be true.

Additional Services

One of the most important aspects of any photo editing service is whether their services can interact with other services they offer. 

In that regard, EPE-REAL does offer the following additional services: 

• Retouching
• Day to Dusk Conversion
• Virtual Staging
• Floor Plans

It’s unclear how well any of these services are combined when you’re trying out the “Test Package.” But I suspect that they are standalone services, where EPE will do the work and leave it to you to implement.

One benefit of a real estate photo editing service like PhotoUp is that they allow you to automatically add your edited photos to a new standalone website, for example.

In contrast to PhotoUp, EPE-REAL’s additional services do not seem to offer that level of functionality. 

With that being said, let’s try and sum up the findings of our EPE-REAL estate photo editing review.

Verdict: Is EPE-REAL’s Photo Editing Services Worth Using?

The verdict of this EPE-REAL estate photo editing review is that I really enjoyed working with this company.

They were eager to please, flexible, and good at what they do, although their overall real estate marketing package is limited.

But their service is still new, and hopefully, they will grow to offer a broader range of services like some of the bigger companies are already providing.

All things considered, they show a lot of promise but are not quite there yet in terms of an overall real estate marketing package. 

But I’m expecting big things from EPE-REAL in the future, and can’t wait to see how they grow.

Smart Photo Editors (SPE) Overview

Smart Photo Editors (SPE) is an international photo editing company from India that offers services across a wide range of sectors, including fashion, antique photo restoration, cars, and much more.

Real estate is just one of their areas of interest. For example, their teams of skilled Adobe experts work primarily with photographers around the world to enhance their images and deliver an affordable post-production service. 

Pricing

Already at pricing, things started to get complicated, and my misgivings began.

On the positive side, Smart Photo Editors’ pricing model is quite flexible, depending on the volume of work you need and how quickly you need delivery to take place.

Their basic package includes:

• HDR blending with Oleno software 
• Shadows and highlights adjustments 
• Levels and contrast/brightness adjustments 

To give you an idea, when working on real estate imagery, their pricing seems to start at $0.50 for stills, $0.80 for HDR images, and $1.50 for panoramic images. 

But on the negative side, it’s really hard to figure out what you’re going to pay, and it takes a long time to get a quote on what you’re doing.

They have told me multiple items that they will send pricing options once the “Free Trial” is over, and it’s been a couple of days now.

The fact is, at this point, I can’t tell you what the definitive cost of their services is, and I’ve run out of patience to wait and find out. To me, this is quite peculiar.

Update: The pricing finally arrived via email, after four days of using the service!

The same workflows are offered for manual blending – Moderate at $1.40, and for Manual Blending – Complex at $1.75.

It’s true that this information did answer a few questions, but it also led to a few more.

For example, what determines whether a blend is simple, moderate, or complex? And is this cost for everyone or for me specifically?

I may be stating the obvious, but this feels needlessly complicated and off-putting to me.

Ordering From SPE

SPE has a unique approach to serving new clients, which I found quite interesting. Let’s take a closer look at the ordering process and uploading images.

1. Creating an Account

To create an account and get started, it seems you always have to start by filling in your details in the “Start Free Trial” box. 

And that input took you to a “Thank You” screen.

A few moments later, a personalized e-mail arrived where a consultant asked a few questions about your expectations.

This was the key line in the email: “I would be more than happy to do a Complimentary Trial Test for you to ensure that we are on the same page meeting your expectation in Quality and Turnaround Time before we share the cost.”

I replied to the mail explaining my needs and then uploaded my images using WeTransfer.   

2. Uploading Images

WeTransfer is a tried and tested reliable platform. When I opened it up, I detailed what I would like done in the comments, and clicked “Upload.”

That went well.  

In the next step, you were sent a verification code to your email, and after confirming your email, the uploading proceeded. 

It took about 5 minutes to upload my 300Mb worth of images, probably because my internet connection wasn’t great.

But I was happy to wait, and it all worked smoothly.

To their credit, the team at SPE was very responsive and engaged once I had uploaded my images.

They responded via email, quickly acknowledging they had received the images, and letting me know they were getting to work on them. 

Then, after a wait of only 5 or 6 hours, I received an email that contained a Dropbox link telling me that my test images were ready for viewing.

I was impressed by the speed!

With that being said, let’s take a look at the quality of the results next.

Photo Editing Examples

SPE understood the brief clearly and responded well to direction. The images were delivered fast, and there were no hiccups. 

Here are the before and after images: 

SPE brought a lot of life and warmth to this room with the roaring fire.

In addition, the outside world looked vibrant and gave a nice balance to the photo.

I would have pushed the contrast for more “drama,” but they did a good job here. 

The focus of the brief was to remove the towel hanging in the bathroom, and they did a good job with that.

But the window was too blown out. And overall, it felt too bright and over-exposed for my taste. 

Good job, SPE!

They blended the bracketed images well and gave a nice, summery afternoon feeling to the exterior of the house.

Additionally, the removal of the swing was clean. 

The dappled light and the sky looked natural in this slightly closer framing of the house.

But overall, the photo felt a bit flat and two-dimensional.

Revisions

I wanted to test how well SPE handled requests for changes to their work, so I emailed the team back with a request to remove the vehicle on the left of the window in one of their images.

I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy edit, so I was eager to see how well they would respond to that.

It took a few days and a couple of emails for SPE to come back to me on the revision, but when they did, they did it well.

The file arrived in the same Dropbox folder and had replaced the previous version.

As you can see, the extraction was well done, although they did remove both vehicles instead of the one. But I was satisfied with the work.

Image Quality

Overall, SPE did a satisfactory job with the sky replacement and object removal, while the window masking was average. 

If you’re not too worried about workflow and want to use SPE, you’ll find your images are processed satisfactorily.

In my opinion, not as good as PhotoUp’s real estate photo editing services, but not too bad.

The verdict of my Smart Photo Editors real estate photo editing review is that SPE has assembled a good team of artists and their editing is solid.

So, no complaints there.

But the website is very text-heavy and there is no CRM for you to plug into. Instead, you need to rely on email and Dropbox, which has its challenges, but I’m sure it would work out. 

However, the strange opacity and inability to tell me how much the service would cost was very frustrating and off-putting. It honestly felt like they were trying to hide something, and eventually, I gave up waiting. 

Besides, there’s an over-reliance on email communication, and different people seem to get back to you at different times. I actually stopped waiting on a few answers to my questions.

On the positive side, they are a solid option with a track record and the team seems very pleasant to work with. But, for my money, I would choose a dedicated real estate marketing company that’s upfront about costs, with a CRM you can centralize operations around.

Phixer Overview

Phixer’s story begins in 2009 in Seattle with a team who set out to ‘make marketing for real estate beautiful, simple, and effective utilizing AI-powered software to increase efficiency for their clients.

When they found they could no longer keep up with demand, Phixer decided to set up an office first in India, then the Philippines.

They built a formidable team capable of handling and editing thousands of real estate images every single day, while running the business from the US.

The company’s business model has proven to be successful, which is similar to PhotoUp in many ways.

Overall, they have a very good reputation and I’m looking forward to using their service.

Virtual Staging Examples

I wanted to experience the range of the company’s virtual staging services, so I selected three rooms for review; a living room, a master bedroom, and a kitchen/dining room.

I’ve used the same three shots across all prior reviews (listed at the end of the post), so you can get a good sense of the results by comparing what other providers have done.

Here are the Phixer results displayed in a slider:

Living Room:

This room was well laid out.

I liked the proportions of the furniture and the choice of the ottoman stools in the foreground.

Also, the photo frames and plants on the sideboard look very authentic and give it a nice, homely feel.

Good render quality and realism all round.

However, I would have liked a curtain or blind on the window, but that seems to be a personal choice.

Master Bedroom:

This is a lovely and thoughtful presentation.

The hanging lamps, the color scheme, chair and photos.

It works really well. No notes!

Kitchen / Dining Room:

The olive stools really pop in this photo, but I was also hoping for a fridge.

And they didn’t cover up the scratch on the floor like I’d hoped.

It’s also a bit sparse down the passageway, so this is my least favorite of the three options.

But overall, I was very impressed with the choice of furniture, placement, and general artistic value in the work.

For the next part of the Phixer virtual staging review, we’ll go step-by-step through the ordering process.

Ordering From Phixer

1. Signing Up for an Account

The Phixer journey begins with the big blue button in the upper right corner that says “Sign Up.”

That leads to a form, where you enter your personal details and create your account.

The “Projects dashboard” is simple and clean, with lots of white space and is easy to understand.

You click “Create“ to start your first project.

Next, you select the kind of service you’re looking for. In my case, it’s virtual staging, but there are various photo editing options, too.

On this page, the “Project Details” slider is a great feature that helps you navigate through Phixer’s workflow.

The first task is to decide whether you want to pay extra for their 24-hour service, as opposed to the regular 48-hour option.

Once you’ve decided what service to go for, you simply choose the images you wish to upload.

2. Uploading a Project

This brings you to the more creative decisions, but it’s still very simple.

First, you select furniture styles from a drop-down menu and assign a room type to each of your images.

Then, the “View Samples” button brings up a really well-designed slider with examples of that style across various room types.

3. Payment

The final step before payment is to decide if you need any decluttering done on your photograph.

There’s a $10 fee, which is added to your bill if you select that service.

When you’re done, you click “Submit.”

And in the next step, you fill in your credit card details.

One thing to note, Phixer only charges your card once they’ve delivered the results, which is a nice touch.

Furniture Library 

On Phixer’s website, the furniture library is called the “Virtual Staging catalog.”

It looks impressive at first glance but is actually a bit thin.

When you pick one of the rooms and one of the styles, there are usually only one or two results on the slider.

Not too bad, but not up to the standard that Phixer has been setting so far.

Getting the Results

The finished images came through from Phixer much quicker than I expected.

It hadn’t even been ten hours when I got an email saying the images were ready.

With that said, clicking on the email takes you to this page.

For a few moments, I was confused, waiting to see my images load.

But nothing was happening.

Only then did I remember that I needed to make the payment first, as they had mentioned earlier.

But I assumed it was going to happen automatically. So, then I clicked the “Checkout Project” button and completed my order.

Virtual Staging Quality

The quality of Phixer’s work was excellent. Not only the process, but the final results as well.

For starters, the choices of furniture, style, placement, and render quality were very pleasing.

Although the absence of a fridge and curtains was a bit disappointing and the scuff marks on the dining room floor should have been covered, these issues were quite minor in totality.

Second, I thought the placement of furniture was interesting in the dining room/kitchen. But the fridge was clearly a digital image.

My favorite room was the master bedroom, and the living room was a close second, but the kitchen/dining room felt a little rushed.

Support

The support system that Phixer uses is simple and effective, and they explain it quite clearly with a pop-up guide.

To ask for a revision, you click on the part of the image you’re not happy with and leave a comment. As you can see in this example…

I asked them to cover up the ugly marks on the wooden floor in the dining room/kitchen.

And four hours later, an email arrived notifying me that the revision was done.

However, that was when I realized there was a $10 revision fee, even on the first correction, and I didn’t have the budget to follow through.

But from what I can see, I have no doubt they would have come up with an elegant solution.  

Pros and Cons of Phixer

To give you a quick overview, here are the pros and cons of Phixer:

Verdict: Is Phixer’s Virtual Staging Worth It?

At the end of the day, I was satisfied with my Phixer virtual staging review and the service they offered.

Phixer’s service is clear, simple and fast, which puts them in the same league as PhotoUp.

Their initial pricing for virtual staging is competitive, although PhotoUp delivers more at a lower price point.

Adding the decluttering features would cause the overall cost to rise quickly, and the fact that a revision costs $10 makes them a lot more expensive than PhotoUp.

At the end of the day, I think that Phixer is offering a good virtual staging service, but you do need a decent budget if you want to be able to control the final product.

If you’re happy to give over completely to the tastes of the Phixer designers then you can keep costs down. But on balance, I would stick to PhotoUp as the more affordable option that gives the same quality.

VRX Staging Overview

VRX Staging is a boutique online service created by a trio of former real estate agents who understood the market and saw the need for professional online marketing help that was out there.

They created a company called VRX Media to service that need, and within that, a sub-brand called VRX Staging, to take care of the virtual staging needs of a real estate professional.

Virtual Staging Examples

In order to fully experience the company’s virtual staging services, I selected three rooms for review; a living room, a master bedroom, and a kitchen/dining room.

As you can see, VRX Staging did a good job in furnishing the rooms and delivering on the brief.

We’ll review the results in more detail later, but first, let’s go through the ordering process.

Ordering From VRX

1. Payments

My VRX journey didn’t get off to a great start when the large orange “Place Your Order” bar on the home page failed to deliver, and all I got was a “Page Not Found” notification.

Nevertheless, the “Order Now” button worked fine and I got going.

First, you select how many images you want to work with.

And there’s a link to a Style Guide, although I noticed that much later.

That takes you to a page where you can see your total.

You are also offered an additional service of changing the wall paint color, before proceeding to the checkout page.

Adding your billing details and choosing payment options is a simple and straightforward process.

However, there’s no option to pay with PayPal which I’d prefer.

Overall, it was a smooth and affordable experience to make payments.

2. Uploading a Project

Once payment is received, you can start the work of uploading your images.

For each image you upload, you get to choose your preferred type of room from a drop-down menu. And then make any comments you have for the design team.

It seemed a bit too basic and I was concerned there was no furniture library to choose from.

The image uploading process was slow and failed the first time around. But luckily, the system managed to accept all my images on the second attempt.

Once that was done, I got an email confirming the order, and that was it.

Furniture Library 

VRX Staging operates a little differently from the other services out there.

Here, you don’t get to choose the kind of look you want for your rooms through some kind of menu.

But you can make a suggestion once you’ve looked through the style guide.

I totally failed to do that before I sent in my images, but it didn’t seem to matter.

In addition, the Style Guide is a web page that displays gallery-style examples of 8 different styles, ranging from Bohemian to Urban Contemporary. And you can ask the designers to emulate one style.

However, there’s no way of choosing specific pieces of furniture for your images, which is a little disappointing.

Getting the Results

The finished images came through from VRX Staging much quicker than I expected.

I uploaded my images on a Friday morning, and the results were ready by the evening.

My virtually staged images arrived via email with a link to a Google Drive folder, where they were available to open and download.

One interesting feature was that they sent you two options; one option without staging and another with the disclaimed ‘Virtually Staged’ in the top right corner, which some people may find useful.

Virtual Staging Quality

Overall, the quality of the work was really good.

The choices they made, placement, and sharpness of images were pleasing.

Besides, I asked for plants in the living room, and they over-delivered, which was great.

Although, the ones on the table could use a little water!^^

I thought the placement of furniture was interesting in the dining room/kitchen, but the fridge was clearly a digital image.

The master bedroom was also good, but to my eye, the bed was a little large and imposing and I would have made that smaller.

But overall, it was good.

Support

The support that VRX Staging provides is quite basic.

For starters, there are no chatbots or anything alike. But you’re invited to email them if you have any revisions requested on your downloads.

I did that and asked them to include an image on the TV in the living room, and they obliged happily.

The whole process took about half a day, which was absolutely fine.

To give you a quick overview, here are the pros and cons of VRX Staging:

Verdict: Is VRX Staging Worth It?

At the end of the day, I was satisfied with my VRX Staging review.

I experience them as a simple yet competent service that delivers what they say quickly and effectively.

Plus, the CMS was easy to use, and the support was responsive. But uploading images to the server was problematic initially. 

Their pricing for virtual staging is competitive, although PhotoUp delivers a lot more for the same cost.

I would recommend VRX Staging if you want a quick, easy service. And you aren’t too fussed about getting involved in the creative process and prefer someone just getting it done for you.

Virtual Staging Solutions Overview

Virtual Staging Solutions is an online photo editing service that was launched in 2009 to cater for real estate professionals.

Over the last twelve years, they’ve staged over 100 000 photos, making them one of the most established companies in the industry.

With that, I’m looking forward to seeing how well they perform. 

As their name suggests, virtual staging is their primary business, and they offer a variety of services in that line such as virtual remodeling, virtual construction, etc.

Virtual Staging Examples

In order to try out the company’s virtual staging services, I selected three rooms for review; a living room, a master bedroom, and a kitchen/dining room.

Here are the results:

Living Room:

To begin, the living room was nicely done.

It has good render detail and nice colors, and layout.

To me, the chair in the foreground doesn’t look realistic. Also, I asked for a doormat by the front door, which they didn’t include.

But other than that, I liked how they staged the space. 

Master Bedroom: 

I liked the way this room was done. Overall, it has a nice layout and proportions all around.

However, my only complaint was that the lamp in the foreground was distorted and didn’t look real. So, I did ask for that to be changed, and they complied. 

The books look a bit better, but still, there’s something odd about the angle in the bottom left corner. 

Dining Room / Kitchen

This was the best of the renders that they sent.

It has nice and clean lines, good colors, and attention to detail.

Overall, I was pleased with the results!

Ordering From VSS

1. Payments

Ordering from Virtual Staging Solutions did not start off as well as it should.

To be honest, I struggled for a while to find where to get started.

There seems to be no order button on the home page, and you have to click View Plans & Pricing to begin. 

As you can imagine, this was a bit frustrating.

After I clicked the Buy Now button, the page below opened up, and I almost felt manipulated into spending more than I wanted to.

Not to mention the fact that the price is higher than any of the other sites.

Because I wanted to try out three test photos, I had to click ‘Add To Cart’ on the Other Amount section of the table above and then follow that process. 

Once I had figured that out, the process was smooth, and I was happy to see that they accepted PayPal. 

2. Uploading a Project

When payment is completed, you can begin your project by clicking the Submit a new project button. 

You first need to enter the name of your project and then upload your photos. 

One of the interesting differences from most other services is that you don’t pick a room type from a drop-down menu. Instead, you simply type in what kind of room you’re looking for.

In addition, it also lets you add a few notes about the room you’ve uploaded if you have any special requests. 

3. Select Furniture

Next, you get to choose whether you want to pick your own furniture or let them do it for you.

I enjoyed the specific focus that Virtual Staging Solutions provided with regard to windows displaying different furniture styles. 

The furniture selection is impressive if you decide to choose your own. And the size of the thumbnails makes it easy to make a selection. I chose Barton Springs for my test images. 

After you’ve finished your uploads, the page below opens up. I like the nice touch about asking whether you would like notification via a text message…hadn’t seen that before. 

That brings you to the end of the ordering process. It’s nicely handled and I had no problems. 

Furniture Library 

As mentioned, the Virtual Staging Solutions furniture library is rather impressive.

The thumbnails are easy to view and you can enlarge them by clicking on them.

Furthermore, you can also zoom in to look closer at the details. 

However, the menu is a little confusing as it switches between styles (e.g. modern living) and room types (e.g. bedroom).

But other than that, it’s a strong part of their portfolio. 

Receiving the Project

The notification that your project is ready comes via email with a link that opens the project in your dashboard.

I was impressed by how quickly they returned my project. It was way quicker than the 24-48 hours they initially promised, which was great.

In addition, the layout of your completed images was nice and easy to work with. And the toggle switch that you use to request a change, along with a comments box to specify adjustments, is a slick solution.

Besides, you can download all the images as a zip file, or download them individually as JPEGs.

Virtual Staging Quality

The layout and positioning of furniture sets were good, and I think the Barton Springs style worked well with the images. 

There were a few issues with the rendered realism though, which brought down the overall effect in my opinion.

Also, some of the pieces were clearly JPEGs of a digital room instead of being a shot of a furnished space, which was disappointing. 

Support

The support that Virtual Staging Solutions provided was adequate if a little impersonal.

When I requested changes through the CMS, the suggestion was accepted and acted upon, and a new image was produced.  

The whole process only took four hours to complete, which was absolutely fine. 

Pros and Cons of Virtual Staging Solutions

To give you a better overview, here are the pros and cons of Virtual Staging Solutions:

Verdict: Is Virtual Staging Solutions Worth It?

All in all, I was satisfied with my Virtual Staging Solutions review. I found them to be a competent service with good, if not great, abilities in virtual staging.

The furniture realism was an issue, but the CMS was easy to use, and the support was responsive. 

However, the elephant in the room is the price.

At $75 per image, it’s wildly more expensive than others, like PhotoUp, which does an excellent job for less than half the price.

In my opinion, Virtual Staging Solutions would have to deliver something extraordinary to justify the cost, and they didn’t do that. 

I don’t suppose they will change as, clearly, there are customers willing to pay that price.

So, I would only recommend them for quality. But would advise that people can get the same service at a far lower price point with, for example, PhotoUp.

Styldod Virtual Staging Overview 

Virtual staging is just one among many services that Styldod offers.

They have a broad range of offerings: from floor plans to video to 3D renders and more. 

But as this is a Styldod virtual staging review, we’ll focus exclusively on this aspect of their business.

Virtual Staging Examples

In order to try out the Styldod virtual staging systems, I selected three rooms for review; a master bedroom, a dining/kitchen, and a living room.

For the furniture style, I selected the Scandinavian style. 

Here are the results:

LIVING ROOM:

To begin, I like what they’ve done here.

The yellow pops nicely, the plant in the corner is a good addition (although slightly unrealistic), and the proportions are nice.

But I had to request a revision because they forgot to put blinds up in the room.

Although that was frustrating, they proceeded quickly to fix it.

So all in all, Styldod did a good job. 

DINING ROOM/KITCHEN:

I wasn’t as impressed with this room as the other two.

For starters, the bar stools look fake and the layout of the dining room set is fairly pedestrian.

Second, the table flowers are good but the plant in the hall looks a bit lost.

I would have preferred some more flair in this room, to be honest. 

MASTER BEDROOM:

This final room was my favorite from Styldod.

Not only because they placed the bed very nicely, but the colors pop, and it all felt very realistic.

Also, the art looks great, as do the pot plants and the wall-mounted TV.

Overall, they did a good job! 

Ordering From Styldod

I was pleasantly surprised by the order flow in the Styldod virtual staging review.

When I started the ordering process, I was running late to go somewhere, so I didn’t expect to finish.

But it all flowed smoothly, and before I knew it, my photos were uploaded into the system and being processed.

That made it feel like a very light, pleasant, and logical sign-up process. 

Now, let’s take a closer look at the ordering process.

1. Order Form

To place a virtual staging order, you start by clicking the big green “Place an order” button. 

In the next step, you need to add your personal details.

2. Select Furniture Style

Following that step, you select a furniture style for the rooms that you want to decorate.

Finally, clicking on one of the “Style” buttons opens a nice large split screen image, so you can see the kind of look that you’re going for.

It’s nicely done!

3. Upload Photos

Once that’s complete, you simply upload the photos that the designers will be working with.

As you can see, the timeline at the top of the page is a nice feature to keep you oriented through the process. 

4. Add Room/Area Details

After your rooms are uploaded to the system, you first identify what kind of room it is. And then use a checkbox to select the kinds of items you want to feature.

The list of items changes according to the “Room/Area” type. 

In addition, you can also leave comments in the text box to ask for something specific that might not be on the checklist. 

5. Checkout

When you’ve entered all relevant data, you get a summary of the order and the price.

You can then proceed to checkout, which happens smoothly, either via PayPal or credit card. 

After payment, you enter into the Styldod dashboard, where you can monitor and manage any further orders.  

Overall, I found the flow to be very intuitive and simple to follow.

The uploading process was quick, instructions were clear, and the whole ordering process took less than 10 minutes.

In my mind, this is definitely one of the better-designed order flows for virtual staging that’s out there!

Furniture Library 

One downside is that Styldod doesn’t offer a furniture library for its virtual staging.

But they do offer a checklist of furniture items that you can request depending on the style and room type of your virtual staging.

With over 8 styles and 20 room types, there’s bound to be something for everyone.

Virtual Staging Quality

The good news is that the furniture used is stylish and modern and the renders are sharp. 

I also found the layout and positioning of the items to be natural and creative.

For instance, they chose to put the bed in a different part of the room to all the other providers I’ve tested, which was interesting and worked well.

Furthermore, the items were rendered realistically, and the sliders on the completed images were excellent. Although, they did slow the downloading process slightly. 

Support

The support I received within the CMS was good.

When I noted that they had forgotten to add blinds to the living room, as I had requested, that mistake was quickly rectified.

However, I never heard back from the team on my first email query, which I presume got lost along the way.

In fact, emailing was a problem throughout the whole ordering process. First of all, I never got the email notification that my images were ready to view.

Besides, I waited three days and then logged in to the dashboard in frustration, only to note that they’d been there for at least 24 hours.

Later on, I looked for the notification email and found it in the spam folder, which explains the reason I didn’t see it initially. 

Pros and Cons of Styldod

To give you a better overview, here are some pros and cons of Styldod virtual staging:

Verdict: Is Styldod Virtual Staging Worth It?

My final verdict of this Styldod virtual staging review is that the company provides a good service.

Not only do their systems work well, but the price point is affordable, and the team is responsive to any requests.

At the same time, there were a few issues with emails, and the quality of virtual staging was good without being great.

But all that aside, I’d have no hesitation in recommending Styldod to someone looking for a solid virtual staging service.

To begin, PhotoUp is a fast-growing online real estate marketing company. It’s a global company with headquarters in Grand Rapids, Michigan, a dedicated workforce in the Philippines, and team members all over the world. 

The company started with a focus on building websites for photographers, before offering photo editing tools and virtual staging services.

Today, PhotoUp is a full-service online real estate marketing business that offers something for everyone – from realtors to agencies to photographers and everyone else in the real estate industry.

In addition, they also offer virtual assistants to busy real estate professionals who don’t have time for all the backroom work required in real estate. 

Virtual Staging Examples

For the PhotoUp virtual staging review, I choose to stage images of a living room, dining/kitchen, and master bedroom in a Modern Contemporary style.

Some of the angels of the rooms are a bit tricky, so I’m curious to see what the team will do with them.

Besides, I didn’t leave comprehensive instructions, so it’s a blank slate for the PhotoUp designers to work on.

Living Room: 

The first thing I noticed was that they had put up drapes in the window, which I appreciated. To me, that’s always a good sign.

Also, many of the other services I’ve reviewed left the left side of the photograph bare, so to see a welcome mat and a plant by the door was great!

Overall, the furniture was lovely.

Although they look a bit smaller than the furniture in prior reviewed virtual staging services, the proportions look great.

However, I wasn’t too happy with the choice of image over the fireplace, so I asked the team to change that for me.

Requesting a revision was easy, which I’ll cover more about later on.

On a side note, I didn’t see the “Submit Revision” button on the right until a few hours later and was left wondering if they saw my note or not?

Clearly, they hadn’t…. So, maybe that submit revision button could be better signposted? Needless to say, I’ll only make that mistake once. 

Kitchen/Dining Room:

The blending of kitchen and dining room elements from the catalog worked well.

It was good to see a fridge in the shot and some items on the countertop too.

Overall, the furniture is clean and simple, and well-spaced out. The woods all match nicely too.

The only thing I would suggest would be to include a photograph or wall art at the end of the passageway.

Master Bedroom: 

The bedroom was my favorite room of the three. I think PhotoUp did a great job here.

I love the trio of pictures above the bed, the cool lamps, and the interesting ottoman. And the choice of furniture is excellent too.

All in all, this was top-notch virtual staging! 

Ordering From PhotoUp

1. Sign-Up Process

Signing up to PhotoUp begins with a nice clear “Sign Up” button displayed on the home page, and clicking it starts the signup process. 

In the first step, you get to fill in your email and create a password.

And on the next page, you type in your personal details. 

Once you’ve filled in your account information, you need to verify your email using a six-digit code that’s sent to your email.

Next, you’re asked to answer a few questions so that PhotoUp can get to know you and your real estate marketing needs better. 

It’s good to see that the security is tight and it all worked smoothly. I was done in less than 2 minutes. 

In the following step, the team wants to get to know which parts of the site you are most interested in, how many properties you work with during your busy season, and where you’d like to start.

And that’s it!

After that, the sign-up process is finished, and you’re redirected to your dashboard to start working on your real estate marketing images.

2. Uploading Images

There’s an introduction video on how to upload your images if you want to watch it. Or you can just move on and figure it out yourself. 

And on the “New Order” page, you upload your photographs and set the parameters of what you want, in terms of size, type, watermark, or note, etc.

3. Selecting Furniture

When selecting one of your images, you’ll see three drop-down menus where you can make selections that best suit your room.

The process is simple, fast, and responsive.

If you don’t find what you’re looking for in the drop-down menus, you can also select from the catalog by clicking “View Catalog” in the top right corner.

To summarize, what I liked the most with the uploading process were: 

Overall, it all felt classy, user-friendly, stylish, and fast….

On a side note, it took me a while to figure out how to add two furniture sets to the kitchen and dining room. But it was fun, and I figured it out in the end.

4. Choosing Plan

When you’ve made all the choices required, you click the “Submit Order” button which opens up a page where you decide what kind of payment plan you require. 

Here you can choose between three plans depending on how many images you want to stage: Pay-As-You-Go, Micro Plan, and Starter Plan.

And on the next page, you leave your credit card details. 

Once you’ve entered your details, you’re redirected to a final window where you click to pay, and that’s it. 

After you’ve placed your order, you get a pleasing email to confirm the upload and tell you when to expect your photos.

That transparency and info about timing is another great part of PhotoUp’s ordering process. 

Unlike PhotoUp, one of the most frustrating things about email-based services is that you have no sense of the progress of your order. You just have to wait. 

But thanks to PhotoUp’s interactive dashboard, you can monitor your active orders and get a sense of what’s happening behind the scenes. 

Best of all, they offer full customer support and weekend orders. And the team was always present to guide me through the process. 

In addition, when you click on any of your images, it gives you a wealth of usability.

For instance, you can use a slider to compare before and after pictures of the room, leave a comment in the side panel, use either text or audio files, and study the metadata around the image as well.

It’s very impressive! 

5. Image Revisions

I was expecting to wait a few days for my virtually staged images.

But to my positive surprise, it only took seven hours until I received an email telling me that my proofs were ready to be reviewed. 

That’s incredibly fast (especially on Thanksgiving weekend), and I was impressed! 

Like mentioned, the notification came via email with some important points:

With that, clicking the link in the email sent me to this page, where I could review and approve my images.

And if you’re happy with the results, you simply click “Approve” and wait for the final renders to arrive.

Furthermore, you can also choose the size of the thumbnails that you want to look at, which is a great touch!

I must say that I love all the customizability that PhotoUp offers. For example, I appreciated seeing the integration with the single property websites.

With the click of a button, you can transfer your edited real estate photos to a property website, which all lives in one extended CMS.

Furniture Library 

PhotoUp’s furniture library is the most impressive of the online catalogs in the virtual staging world.

It’s comprehensive, easy to access, interactive, and beautiful. 

For starters, there are 5 styles to choose from and 18 room types.

Second, the renders in each JPEG are crisp and clear, making it easy to see what you’re ordering. 

Third, each tile opens a library of choices that are clear, well laid out, and have codes to use for your order.

Also, clicking on any selection opens up a large image that you can study in more detail. 

Again, very simple and effective!

Virtual Staging Quality

The quality of furniture items was excellent throughout all of the rooms.

All in all, the furniture was detailed with a nice and modern look.

Full of life!

Additionally, the layout and position in the rooms were excellent.

In contrast to other services, I found PhotoUp’s furniture placement to be slightly smaller, which made the rooms look grand.

Support

PhotoUp’s support was above expectation.

Not only were they quick to respond positively to any queries, but there’re also lots of options to connect via your dashboard.

I admit I was expecting to like the offering from PhotoUp as I had heard good things about the company, but I wasn’t expecting to like it this much.

Not only is the price affordable, but PhotoUp also offers so many cool features and customizability.

I can see that their services suit a busy team of real estate professionals, as well as someone who’s just looking to sell their home and wants to make it look great. 

Lastly, the look and feel their virtually staged images offers are excellent. And the backend you interact with is great too!

In my opinion, this is the best virtual staging service out there.

Virtually Staging Properties Overview

Virtually Staging Properties (VSP) is a company run by its founders, Jay and Kristzina Bell, who are real estate professionals from Atlanta, Georgia.

Their experience with home staging and real estate led to the founding of the company. Their goal is to provide the widest range of home decor options available to suit any taste. 

Although they are quite new to the online world, their service seems slick and well organized.

However, one thing I noticed on the site is that the blog hasn’t been updated for over a year, which is a bit concerning. 

Ordering From Virtually Staging Properties 

To begin, the order process begins nicely with a big “Place Your Order” button on the Home Page to get you started.
 

1. Choose Virtual Staging Plan

In the next step, you’re asked if you want to select the Custom Option for $60 or the Express Option for $39 (I chose Express for this review).

2. Order Form

When you click the big yellow button, you are taken to the order form.

This contains a long, slightly confusing page that includes all the financial interactions, as well as the ordering and selecting of your virtual images. 

To my frustration, I ran into my first problems at the ordering stage, as VSP didn’t accept either Paypal or Debit Cards.

You could only use a credit card, which I don’t have, so that slowed me down somewhat.

Nevertheless, I was able to borrow one and select a plan, but it was a bit deflating.

3. Upload Photos

Once the payment issue was sorted out, I began to upload images but ran into a second problem. 

I got an error message saying: “Your images cannot be bigger than 10MB.” So, I needed to use Photoshop to down-size my images, which was another pain point I hadn’t expected. 

Also, the ordering and payment screen is all part of the ordering process, so you work your way down slowly from top to bottom.

And then, you complete the order process by accepting the terms & conditions at the bottom of the form.

Overall, the order process isn’t exciting or sophisticated, but it seems perfectly functional at this stage.

And hopefully, the results will speak for themselves.  

Furniture Library 

The furniture library is one of VSP’s best features.

As a matter of fact, they have interesting designs and pieces of furniture to choose from.

And there’s a wide range of options, despite the fact that there are only three styles on offer (Transitional, Traditional, Contemporary, and Child for a kid’s bedroom).

Select Furnishings for Staging

Once you have paid for your images, you move on to Step 1, which is to select furnishings for your stagings. 

And for each new room type, a new tab opens with a pdf of the library. 

Although the furniture is nice, it’s a slightly clumsy interface and definitely open to errors when you select your numbers and transfer them back to the order form.

(More than once, I had to go back and double-check what I chose and then found it hard to get back to the set where I wanted.) 

In like manner, I also struggled to find the option of kitchen/dining room hybrid amongst the room types but chose a dining room layout in the hopes that it’s appropriate. 

As you can see on the screenshot below, the JPEGs of the furniture sets in the library are quite small and it’s difficult to see the details.

When you click on the room style you want, it opens up a pdf of the catalog for you to browse.

Besides, there’s no interactivity in the library. You are required to remember the number of the set you like, and then write down the number in a text box where you have uploaded the image, alongside any other instructions you may have.

Nonetheless, I was able to make my selections from the furniture sets and look forward to the results. 

Delivery of Images

After a few back-and-forth exchanges with the VSP team and a couple of spam emails later, the images were delivered.

It took approximately 55 hours, which is a long turnaround time.

In addition, the notification that your images are available arrives via email. 

When clicking on the email, it opens an interface called “Hightail”, where you can download your images.

The layout is slick and easy to understand. Although, I was surprised to see that the images are only available for a week. 

Virtual Staging Quality

Now, let’s take a closer look at the images which have come back from VSP: 

MASTER BEDROOM:  

The potplant I asked for worked well, but the rest left me feeling a little empty.

No doubt I chose those lamps, but I couldn’t imagine sleeping with that lamp hanging over the bed as if you were being interrogated!

Also, the colors are a little dull. So all in all, this was my least favorite of the three rooms.  

KITCHEN / DINING AREA:

In my opinion, the color scheme of the furniture and the wood works well with the room.

The ironwork on the table and the stools are strong. I also appreciate the artwork on the wall in the passage.

A major mistake was that they didn’t add a fridge in the kitchen section.

How could they miss that?!

Be that as it may, my guess is that it was because the catalog selection did not include a kitchen option. 

LIVING ROOM:

There are some really nice elements in the way that the room is laid out. The rug is great, the artwork and the lamp too.

But I wonder why that single chair was placed where it was?

I do acknowledge that this is a tough room to furnish.

Additionally, the two tables come across as slightly digital in the rendering, and I’m always pleased when drapes are added to the big main window. 

All in all, I found the images were good but not great. The quality of the renders was good across the board, but the bedroom was a little dull and lacking in flair. 

Support

When I sent an email inquiry about weekend orders and bulk discounts, the founder of the company answered personally after a four-hour wait.

It was great to hear directly from Jay Bell. On the other hand, that level of direct contact does give the impression that the service is rather small and would buckle under a lot of traffic. But perhaps it’s a group of employees all speaking in his name.  

Furthermore, one problem that came up was that an initial query from my allotted designer ended up in my spam folder for some reason.

This added an extra 24 hours to the delivery of my images.

With this in mind, that’s one of the drawbacks of relying so heavily on email for communication with the client. 

Pros and Cons of Virtually Staging Properties

To give you a better overview, here are some pros and cons of Virtually Staging Properties:

Verdict: Is Virtually Staging Properties Worth It?

My final verdict of this Virtually Staging Properties review is that they provide a simple and functional site that does what it says it does.

In contrast to the site’s usability, I found the lack of debit cards or Paypal supports a bit problematic.

Also, the fact that I had to go and adjust all my images to under 10MB was annoying. But once that was done it proceeded smoothly. 

Overall, the website is simple and effective, but there’s a heavy reliance on email for the process to work.

My expectations for Virtually Staging Properties were high thanks to their high price point, and I feel like they do meet them without surpassing expectations.

So, with a little bit of work on the payment options, increased innovation, and less reliance on email, Virtual Staging Properties could become a prominent player in the virtual staging industry.
